Knowing My Assignment

The Story Of JACOB

BETHEL – House of God – Gen 28:22

Jacobs wrestles with God – Gen 32:28 Genesis 32:28 (NIV) 28 Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel,[a]because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.” All along had responded, reacted based on what people said he was. God told him that he was a prince, with power and favored by God! Had to balance between his dark side (Jacob) and his good side (Israel). The blood of Jesus covers my Jacob so that my Israel can take over!

Raping of his daughter(dinah) by Shechem (Genesis 34:1-2)

The God of the House – gen 35:3

Death of Rachael- Gen 35:16-18

Jacob mourns for his son – Gen 37:24

Jacob wants to give up – Gen 42:36

Jacob enters Egypt looking for food – Gen 46

Jacob lived full life. Defied death until he was ready to go Jacob lived full life. Defied death until he was ready to go. He called his sons, blessed them and gave instruction – Gen49

Genesis 49:33 (NIV) 33 When Jacob had finished giving instructions to his sons, he drew his feet up into the bed, breathed his last and was gathered to his people. The Jacob we see here is a seasonal leader who has gone through a lot of pressure that has thickened his spirit. At the end of his life, he is fulfilled – his life is filled to the full, reconciled and satisfied. He has lived for 17 years with a son he thought was dead. 17 years of vindication! Many times he had thought he would die, BUT GOD SUSTAINED him throughout. Weeping may endure for a night but JOY COMES IN THE MORNING!

Jacob came as beggar BUT left like a pharaoh Jacob came as beggar BUT left like a pharaoh! His body was embalmed for 40 days. Body prepared for 40 days Israelites kept in captivity For 400 years Left as a Pharaoh Israelites left with all the Riches of the Egyptians. It is not over until God says It’s over You will get what you thought had been lost

The Disloyalty of Joseph’s brothers  4 When his brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them, they hated him and could not speak a kind word to him. Phases of Disloyalty Independence Stage Offensive Stage - Hated Joseph. Passive Stage – Stopped talking to him (Vs 8). Critical Stage – Criticized him. Political Stage – Vs 18 planned to kill him. Deception Stage - By killing him ; No more dreams. Open Rebellion Stage - Rebelled against their dad. Execution Stage – Executed the plan (Vs 28)

Joseph’s brothers never let go their guilt …GUILT STOPPED FAVOR TO FLOW IN THEM FOR 17 YEARS As long as you see yourself by what you did or what was done to you, you will never be free! Until you forgive YOURSELF, you will never receive favor!
