Delivering a Training Session

What are the advantages of holding a training session? Improve organizational morale. Holding training sessions can make your organization more effective. Increase community awareness.

When should you host a training session? Take into consideration the type of training: Regular, repeated trainings Regular, topical training sessions Trainings done occasionally on an "as needed" basis Trainings that "piggyback" onto other events Trainings done to fulfill professional requirements

How do you deliver a training session? Before the training session Set a budget. Secure space for the training session. Prepare materials for the session. Make sure everyone knows when and where the training will be Send "homework" to training participants. Have the trainer himself do "homework."

During the training session Arrive early to set up shop. Be ready to greet people when they arrive. If appropriate, make sure everyone knows everyone else. Set (share) the agenda. Set ground rules. Make sure everyone has the chance to talk and ask questions, as appropriate . Stick to the schedule, as much as possible.

After the session is over Ask participants/leaders to evaluate the session. Outline next steps for participants. Leave the room neat and tidy. Follow up, as appropriate. Celebrate!
