Presentation transcript:

Preliminary Task 2 Self reflection

Question 1 Part A My project challenges convention in the overall subject matter used. In most music videos, the relationship between the characters is person-to-person. In my project we chose differently and used a person-to-pet relationship. A good example of person-to-person relationship is between Drake and Rihanna in the video for Take Care. In our project we made sure to make the relationship just as clear.

Question 1 Part A On the other hand, my project uses conventions seen in other similar music videos. Frank Ocean’s video, Swim Good, uses a certain over the shoulder shot, taken from a high angle. My group tried to recreate this in the final scene of the video. Here is where the main character is seen placing a picture of the dog on the grave. The high angle and the over shoulder shot create the feeling of vulnerability in the character. We acknowledge this in our research and we able to incorporate into our final project.

Question 1 Part A Another way my project follows conventions is through the incorporation of an event with a notoriously negative connotation. In my project, the dog is killed in a tragic bike accident. This can be compared to the burning car in Swim Good. Frank Ocean uses the car crash as an important sense of conflict and change in the video. My group aimed to capture this by creating a scene in which the pet is killed.

Question 1 Part B In this project, my group wanted to tackle the issue of pet love and loss. In today’s world, pets are seen as members f the family and are often treated as such. The connection between man and dog can be especially strong. We used Frank Ocean’s song, Seigfried, to display the beautiful relationship of an owner and his pet and just how quickly it can all be ripped away.

Question 2 My product would engage with audiences all around the world through YouTube. YouTube is a website, as well as Smart Phone App, that allows people to view videos and media content through the internet. Most music videos are shared this way by big name artists such Frank Ocean.

Question 3 Through out this project, my skills greatly improved. I learned how to edit video well and to record high quality video using a camera. The process of peer review and re-filming showed how to revise and make fixes that greatly changed the outcome of the video.

Question 4 I used a Canon camera to record the video used in this project. iPhone Cameras were also used in certain parts of the video for different perspective as well as production efficiency. Computer software such as Premiere Pro and iMovie were responsible for the mature editing seen in the final product. Different camera equipment were use such a small grip for steady mobile shots and a tripod to reduce the shakiness in our music video.
