“uMKhonto we Sizwe” or “MK” Armed wing of the African National Congress (ANC) Established in 1961 After Mandela lost hope passive, non-violent protest He established this while he was on the run from the African government Was offered financial and practical help by countries including Ethiopia and Algeria.

Mandela did not wish to kill. Mandela had no military training himself Rather, his plans for this organization were aimed towards sabotage. "hit back by all means within our power in defence of our people, our future and our freedom". Mandela figured that the only way to combat apartheid at this point would be by using resistance.

launched its first guerrilla attacks against government installations on 16 December 1961 classified as a terrorist organization by the South African government and the United States, and banned.

Most of their attacks were done on infrastructure and other industrial sites. This emphasized that MK did not aim to kill but to sabotage.
