“You are what you think.” "grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord" 2 Peter 3:18 “You are what you eat.” “You are what you think.” “Success or failure in any undertaking is caused more by mental attitude than by mental capacity.” (Walter Scott)

“You are what you think.” "grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord" 2 Peter 3:18 “You are what you eat.” “You are what you think.” “The greatest discovery of my generation is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitudes of mind.” (William James)

“You are what you think.” "grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord" 2 Peter 3:18 “You are what you eat.” “You are what you think.” Prov. 23:7: For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Matthew 15:16-20

As He Thinketh in His Heart “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he…” Prov. 23:7 The Importance of Attitude Developing a Good Attitude Proper Attitude Toward Goals in Life Decide on One Main Goal in Life Some Areas in Which We Need to Develop Good Attitudes

1. The importance of attitude As He Thinketh in His Heart “For as a he thinketh in his heart, so is he…” Prov. 23:7 1. The importance of attitude Attitude is everything! Prov. 23:7 Our attitude toward life determines life’s attitude toward us! What we achieve in life, or fail to achieve, is largely due to our attitude (Jim Shekhdar). If you think you can’t, you won’t. If you think you can, you will! Christians need a “can do” attitude! Neh. 4:6; Phil. 4:13; Num. 13:30

2. Developing a good attitude As He Thinketh in His Heart “For as a he thinketh in his heart, so is he…” Prov. 23:7 2. Developing a good attitude Before a building can be built a foundation must be laid. Develop a good attitude toward yourself: Prov. 23:7 Expect more good than bad from life: 2 Cor. 4:16; Ex. 14:15; Prov. 17:22 Make a list of reasons why you CAN grow and be strong in the Lord: Eph. 3:20 Associate with others having good attitudes: Prov. 12:25-26 One does not have a good attitude because of his position in life; he has a position in life because he has a good attitude!

3. Proper attitude toward goals in life As He Thinketh in His Heart “For as a he thinketh in his heart, so is he…” Prov. 23:7 3. Proper attitude toward goals in life “If we aim at nothing, we are guaranteed to hit it.” One secret to success in life is to have some concrete goals in life. “What the mind of man can conceive and believe—it can achieve.” It is estimated that less than 5% of all people are working toward a goal. To be without a goal in life would be like a ship with-out a rudder. Don’t kick yourself when you’re old!

“For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21 As He Thinketh in His Heart “For as a he thinketh in his heart, so is he…” Prov. 23:7 4. Decide on one main goal Being a faithful Christian is the main goal of life! Matt. 16:26; 6:33; Phil. 3:12-14 Write it down, think about it often! Prov. 23:7; Phil. 4:8-9 “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21 We are the sum total of our thoughts: Prov. 4:23 Goals make life meaningful: Phil. 1:21

5. Some areas in which we need to develop good attitudes As He Thinketh in His Heart “For as a he thinketh in his heart, so is he…” Prov. 23:7 5. Some areas in which we need to develop good attitudes Toward life itself: Gen. 2:7; 1:26-27; 1 Pet. 5:8; Josh. 24:15; Rom. 6:16; Jas. 4:14; Gal. 6:7-8 Toward sin: Heb. 5:9; 10:28-31; Isa. 59:2; Heb. 3:13; 11:25; Prov. 13:15; Rom. 6:23; Gal. 6:7; 1 Cor. 10:13 Toward work: 1 Thess. 4:11-12; 2 Thess. 3:10-12; Eph. 4:28 Toward self: Rom. 12:3; Gal. 6:3; 2 Cor. 10:17-18; Phil. 4:13; Lk. 9:23; 1 Cor. 9:24-27 Toward others: Phil. 2:3-4 Toward death: Heb. 9:27; Matt. 25:41; 2 Cor. 5:1; Phil. 1:21; 2 Tim. 4:6-8

Conclusion As He Thinketh in His Heart “For as a he thinketh in his heart, so is he…” Prov. 23:7 REMEMBER: Our attitude reveals what we are on the inside. We all need to keep our thinking straight, “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he” Prov. 23:7
