Skill and Ability What is skill? and how do you recognise it? What is the difference between skill and ability?

Recognising skill Sports performer are often described as ‘skilful’, but what exactly does that mean? Physical performance uses combinations of three different types of skill… Cognitive Perceptual Psycho-Motor The balance which these are used in depends on… Objectives of the movement Situation it is used in.

Characteristics of a skilled performer Actions are consistently successful Actions are efficient and minimise time used Actions are economic in energy output Actions are goal directed Actions are aesthetically pleasing Actions are adaptable Actions are co-ordinated and controlled Michael Jordan
