Character of Scout Finch To Kill A Mockingbird

First Person/Dual Narrative This allows the reader to see incidents and characters through the eyes of a child and how as an adult her views of themes change. The naivety of her as a child lets the reader see the extreme conditions of the town.

Scout Finch Scout is a 6 year old girl who is telling the story in first person narrative. She has a very close relationship with her father Atticus and older brother Jem. As she spends a lot of her time with her brother meaning she acted like her brother and his friends.

Atticus’s Lessons Scout and her brother were brought up to treat everyone as equals by their father. This is hard as they are surrounded by racism. The fact that Scout listens to these lessons shows she is a strong character.

Character Development Scout sees her father as boring, like a typical child would if their father did not play with them. This soon changes when she realises the responsibly he has. This shows her maturity as she has an understanding towards her fathers responsibilities.

Effects of Racism When she is younger she is affected by the racism as she is srrounded by it in school. She changes as she grows up and realises that it is wrong. “every passing Negro laughing in the night was Boo Radley loose and after us” Scout and other children seen him as something to fear.
