A Country With No Rights! North Korea A Country With No Rights!

Objective By the end of the PowerPoint, SWBAT to compare the rights that people have in North Korea versus the United States. By the end of the PowerPoint SWBAT to recognize what rights people in North Korea do not have.

North Korea: Background North Korea is located on the continent of Asia. North Korea has a population of 24,000,000 people.

Kim Jong Ill Kim Jong Ill is the Leader of North Korea He has been the leader since 1994. Before Kim Jong Ill was the leader, his father, Kim Il Sung, was the leader. He was not elected by the people. He rules with an iron fist!

The Media The press is only allowed to show things in the Newspaper or on T.V. that have be OK’d by the government! In your home you have a speaker that plays only government news. You can not turn it off! If this were America, what Amendment would be violated!?

First Amendment!!!! Freedom of Speech: You as a U.S. citizen are allowed to say what you want to say without being put in jail by the government. The press is allowed to cover and show anything it wants without being shut off or put in jail by the government. You are allowed to follow any religion you want without being punished by the government.

Government Searches The North Korean government can search your house whenever they want! The government doesn’t allow people to have lots of things so they will randomly search your house to see if you have one of those things. If this were America, what Amendment would be violated!?

Fourth Amendment!!! The Right to Say No to Searches The government or police cannot search any of your property (car, house, book bag) without an order from a judge or if there is a good reason to search.

Torture The North Korean government will kidnap you and force you to speak to get information out of you! If this were America, what Amendment would be violated!?

The Fifth Amendment!!! The Right to Remain Silent U.S. citizens cannot be forced to speak to a police officer or a court. They can just say, “I plead the Fifth” and you do not have to say anything else.

Arrests The government arrests people and throws them in jail without ever letting them have a trial or even see a judge! If this were America, what Amendment would be violated!?

The Sixth Amendment!!! The Right to a Fast Trial by a Jury of other U.S. citizens If a U.S. citizen is charged with a crime, that person has a right to a fast trial. A U.S. citizen has the right to have a fair trial that is decided by a jury made up of other U.S. citizens.

Welfare In North Korea a lot of the people don’t have food, shelter, or clothing. Meanwhile....Kim Jong Ill has a fleet of 100 Mercedes Benz limousines, and lobster flown in daily from Norway! If this were America, what Amendment would be violated!?

The Ninth Amendment!!! The Right to have Rights besides those listed in Constitution Because there are so many basic human rights, not all of them could be listed in the Constitution. This amendment means that rights cannot be stopped just because they are not listed in the Constitution.

Conclusion! There are many rights that we have as Americans that people around the world do not have! The Constitution protects us, and without it, the U.S. government may have become too strong!
