“Trump's historic moment arrives”

Donald Trump is hours away from being sworn in as the 45th President of the United States during a historic transfer of power that encapsulates American democracy. The 70-year-old Republican will take the oath of office on the West Front of the Capitol just before noon (WATCH IT IF YOU CAN!!!), swearing to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution. Trump will begin a day of ceremony Friday morning by attending a traditional inauguration day service at Saint John's Church, across from the White House. Then the President-elect, Vice President-elect Mike Pence and their families will go to the White House for coffee with President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. The Obamas will leave the White House for the last time, accompanying the Trumps to Capitol Hill for the swearing-in ceremony. Trump will take the oath of office, led by Chief Justice John Roberts. The former president and his family will then head to Andrews Air Force base for a farewell ceremony before taking one last flight on the presidential jet. Trump will attend a joint congressional inaugural luncheon in the Capitol before heading back to the White House for the inaugural parade. In the evening, Trump and the new first lady, Melania Trump, will attend two inaugural balls.

In Other News After a long and much-criticized search, the US Army has chosen Sig Sauer to produce its next generation of handgun, eventually replacing the current standard issue sidearm, the Beretta M9 pistol. Sig Sauer's P320 pistol is believed to be the model on which the new handgun will be based. The Army is seeking certain modifications that are not being made public. Sig Sauer was founded in Germany but has a subsidiary located in Exeter, New Hampshire. The presidential oath of office consists of 35 words: I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of president of the United States, and will, to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. The presidential oath is the only one spelled out in the Constitution, and is the shortest. Interestingly, not included in the Constitution are the words used at the end by perhaps all presidents: "So help me God.” Chief Justice John Roberts will administer the oath on Friday, and the president-elect will use his personal, family Bible and the Lincoln Bible. Though swearing on a Bible is not universal. Constitution does not specify who will do those honors, though by tradition it is the chief justice, with another justice swearing in the vice president. http://www.cnn.com/2017/01/19/opinions/oath-of-office-roundup-opinion/index.html (Great Article)
