Views of the Earth today Earth as a system. The earth is a spherical shape It supports a complex web of life. The earth’s system has 4 major parts: –
@earthscience92. What is a System? Systems – a group of interacting parts that work to together to do a job or to form a whole. Open Systems Closed Systems.
What’s the Atmosphere? The atmosphere is a combination of mostly invisible gases that surrounds Earth. The atmosphere is a combination of mostly invisible.
What on Earth? What is the Earth system?
What is Earth? Scientists divide Earth into systems to help them better understand the planet. The outermost Earth system is an invisible layer of gases.

Other Notes: Change any text you like in the ppt Teachers-make one of these graphic organizers for yourself so you have an example to show, and because it makes you more descriptive when doing the lesson. Print these slides to help you present. Click Print under “Print what:” select “Handouts (3 Slides per page)” See notes on later slides for more info. Geosphere, Hydrosphere, Cryosphere, Atmosphere, & Biosphere

Earth’s 5 Spheres With paper turned sideways, trace cup to get the Earth circle shown. The ovals on the top/bottom of earth will become ice caps.

Earth’s 5 Spheres Color the continents brown

Earth’s 5 Spheres Geo-sphere- The rocky part of Earth Goes from center of Earth to the surface Divided into 3 layers: crust (least dense), mantle, and core (most dense) land Bio-sphere- life … Atmo-sphere- air … Earth’s 5 Spheres Hydro-sphere- Includes lakes, rivers, marshes, clouds, rain, and underground water 97% of all water is salt; oceans cover 70% of Earth’s surface The water cycle… liquid water Cryo-sphere- frozen … Pattern for each sphere: Name the sphere; underline it Draw an arrow to where it’s at One-word assiciation Key facts -Sphere names are hyphenated to emphasize the name; as in- “hydro-” means what? (water) -How I finished the other 3 doors on this graphic organizer: Cryosphere: this is all the frozen water on earth; mostly in Antarctica and the Artic; includes snow, glaciers, sea ice, icebergs, and even frost in the ground; the amount of frozen water changes with the seasons Atmosphere: the invisible gas that surrounds earth; extends about 600km high, but most gases are near earth’s surface; 78% of the gas is nitrogen; some of the atmosphere reflect and absorb harmful UV rays Biosphere: life is found almost everywhere on earth- in soil, lakes, and even on rocks; most need oxygen or carbon dioxide to survive; most also need liquid water and moderate temperatures; the sun is the original source of energy for all life on earth
