WHAT ARE THEY AND WHERE ARE THEY FOUND? COMMON COMPOUNDS.
Biochemistry Basics Objectives: 1.Be able to read a Periodic Table 2.Identify elements and compounds needed by living organisms 3.How are compounds created?
Physical Science 101. Atom the basic building block of all matter one single “unit” of an element Examples: a Hydrogen atom, a Nitrogen atom.
Aim: What are the basic concepts that you need to know about chemistry?
What is Matter made of? Atoms – the basic particle of which all matter, EVERYTHING, is made * A sheet of paper is approximately 10,000 atoms thick.
Anatomy and Physiology. All matter, both living and not living, is made of elements, the simplest chemicals. An element is a substance made of only one.

Organic Compounds Notes

Organic Compounds Compounds (molecules) that contain the element carbon(C) and other elements Other elements in organic compounds: Hydrogen (H) Oxygen (O) Nitrogen (N) Phosphorus (P) Sulfur (S)

Organic Compounds Examples: Glucose (C6H12O6) Methane (CH4) Calcium carbonate (CaCO3) Organic compounds can be found in both living (glucose) and nonliving (carbon dioxide) parts of an ecosystem.

Inorganic Compounds Compounds that do NOT contain the element carbon. Examples: Water (H2O) Table Salt (NaCl) Oxygen (O2) Commonly found in both living (salt) and nonliving (water) parts of an ecosystem.
