PIRATE COLLEGE ACADEMY Period 4 SUBJECT (Week 16) Date: 21-25 May 2012 Loc: Rm 50 – W. Martin MATH 6A – PER 2 & 6 SCIENCE/HEALTH – PER 3 & 5 PIRATE COLLEGE ACADEMY Period 4 STANDARD MG 1.1,2. Understand the concept of a constant such as pi; know the formulas for the circumference and area of a circle. Health Expectations 1 to 8. Students will be motivated to learn, and develop skills needed to remain drug free. 2NS4.3 Students will know that when all fractional parts included, such as four-fourths, the result is equal to the whole and to one. LEARNING OBJECTIVE Differentiate between and use appropriate units of measures for two-and three-dimensional objects. Students will be able to write a personal goal, list steps needed to reach the goal and discuss the way drug use can interfere with the ability to reach a goal. I want you to tell show me how to determine equivalent forms of fractions. Make me a visual aid and color them. AGENDA Introduce Chapter 11-5, Solve Simpler Problems and Chapter 11-6 Area of a Complex Figure Look at Brain Pop on Area of a Circle. Introduce the activities: Dying to Visit Tobacco World Tobacco Products and Their Effects Be Smart – Don’t Start Get out a sheet of paper and make Cornell Notes titled “Mixed Numbers and Improper Fractions”. You will see a Brain Pop on Mixed Numbered Fractions Work with study buddy. DO NOW ACTIVITY Do the warm up problems on the blackboard on Chapter 11-5 and 11-6. Get your Cornell notes out or your foldable and take notes on Monday. Open up workbook and review pages 7 responding to Warnings from the Cemetery. Get out a sheet of paper and find out what your study buddy knows about Improper Fractions. You will do an presentation on your “Study Buddy”. HOMEWORK Do problems 1-9, page 595 Do problems 1-24, page 597. Make foldable on page 570. Draw a picture of a cigar, a pipe, a package of chewing tobacco, and a package of dip and tell what are the ill effects of using these products. Do Lesson 2-2 “Mixed Numbers and Improper Fractions”, page 41 to 49. TEST Test will be the on-line test for Chapter 11-5 and 11-6 taken on laptops. Your test will be Lesson 6. Click on the Too Good for drugs tab and write down the question and answer. You can copy and paste test in your folder. Your Test will be on Chapter 2 Progress Check 1 on page 50. Copy the entire test and answer the questions. EXTRA CREDIT Make the foldable on page 570. Label on side with lesson 11-5 and 11-6. Take notes on this foldable and show on Thursday complete with Standard, Vocabulary, and notes. Perform a play about “Why you should not smoke cigarettes”. Good performance will get an E on their work habit grade. Make a chart showing equivalent fractions. Use your base ten blocks to make examples.
