Presentation transcript:

My spectrum of central coherence ACTIVITY A. YOUR WRITING PROMPTS PAGE 92-93

Event: What happened? Do you understand the individual parts of instructions but not automatically put them together to know what to do? Has this ever meant you have missed things like deadlines? Were you penalised for this? Can you understand the rules of P.E. games? Do you focus on someone’s eyes or hair but not really know what their whole face looks like? Do you hear or read words but not put them together to understand the whole sentence? Could sensory things such as heightened hearing affect your ability to absorb all the parts of conversations? Does tiredness affect your ability to absorb information properly?

Reaction: What happened in my body and mind? Do you over speak or talk at a quick speed if you are unsure about things? Will you try to figure things out or withdraw? Do you panic? Is this apparent to other people or invisible? Are you able to speak to ask for help? Are you embarrassed if you are unsure of things or do you feel able to express any concerns you may have? How do you feel after realising that you didn’t understand something? Do you feel proud of your more detailed insight into things?

Meaning: What does central coherence mean for me? Does it feel as though you have a different perspective compared to other people? Do you notice things no one else will? When could you use this style of thinking to your advantage? Do you get a sense of confidence in your ability to identify all the separate parts of subjects, people or situations? Or do you feel unable to cope with things that everyone else doesn’t seem to even have to think about? Have you ever pretended to understand something because everyone else seemed to? How did this affect you or the outcome?

Effect: How did other people react? Has anyone ever come to you because they know you have a better understanding of particular things? Are people confused if you sometimes don’t know what to say or do? How does this affect their response to you? Do they seem to understand how your mind works without needing things explained or question your behaviour and responses?

Strategies: What would support my version of central coherence? Would comparing your perspective with family, friends or teachers help to give a deeper insight into how you think? Could you use your detailed overview of things to provide support for other people? Is there a specialist or advisory group that you could provide additional information for on particular topics that you can break apart like no one else?
