Presentation transcript:

6-4 Special Parallelograms Students will analyze relationships between rhombuses, rectangles, and squares. They will also recognize the significance of sides, angles, etc. within each figure and be able to add auxiliary elements to each. 6-4 Special Parallelograms To define and classify special types of parallelograms. To use properties of diagonals of rhombuses and rectangles.

6-4 Quiz The following questions are to help you determine how well you understood today’s lesson. Please record the number you get right on your portfolio sheet Make sure you understand why you miss the ones that you do not get correct!

  x = 12, y = 84, z = 20 x = 6, y = 174, z = 20 x = 6, y = 84, z = 10 x = 12, y = 174, z = 10 Non-Response Grid

2. DEFG is a rectangle. DF = 5x – 5 and EG = x + 11 2. DEFG is a rectangle. DF = 5x – 5 and EG = x + 11. Find the value of x and the length of each diagonal. x = 4, DF = 15, EG = 15 x = 4, DF = 15, EG = 18 x = 4, DF = 13, EG = 13 x = 2, DF = 13, EG = 13 Non-Response Grid

  9, 9 17, 17 11, 11 26, 26 Non-Response Grid

Arrange four equal-length sides so the diagonals bisect each other. 4. Lucinda wants to build a square sandbox, but has no way of measuring angles. Explain how she can make sure that the sandbox is square by only measuring length. Arrange four equal-length sides so the diagonals bisect each other. Arrange four equal-length sides so the diagonals are equal lengths also. Make each diagonal the same length as four equal-length sides. Not possible; Lucinda has to be able to measure a right angle. Non-Response Grid

5. Which description does NOT guarantee that a quadrilateral is a parallelogram? a quadrilateral with both pairs of opposite sides congruent a quadrilateral with the diagonals bisecting each other a quadrilateral with consecutive angles supplementary quadrilateral with two opposite sides parallel Non-Response Grid

6-4 p.379-380 #8-40 even Assignment: Be sure to RATE your understanding of the lesson 4-3-2-1-0 after you finish it AND give me 2 complete sentences as to why you rated yourself that way.
