Clothing in Medieval Europe. Men and women clothing.

Questions- What was the main difference between rich people clothing and poor people clothing? What were 3 things that came into style in the medieval ages?

Women's clothing. Medieval women's clothing in Europe went through many changes during different time periods. In the early medieval period, the influence of Roman and Greece clothing was still noticeable, but over time more fashionable and stylish clothing became popular to woman. This was mostly because of the developing of trade and economies. Women's clothing has close to no style and was very simple, but during later medieval periods there clothing changed drastically. Tighter fitting garments, low necklines, corsets and gowns became some of the most popular women's clothing.

Men's clothing introduction. Different clothing was worn by both high life and low life peoples. Rich people would wear fashionable, clean clothing that was popular at the time. Low life/peasants wore tattered, rough and reused fabric as there day to day clothing attire. Peasant clothing was made from very poor fabric, almost like a potato sack, or if you were lucky you would have wool or pelts. Rich people wore silky, comfortable clothing that was brand new fabric.

Men's clothing (continued). The hierarchy is demonstrated in the feudal system, better looking and feeling fabric clothed peoples were placed at the top and dirty, unfashionable clothing at the bottom. Fur and jewellery was usually worn by the wealthy. Stone cutting wasn’t invented until the 15th century so the most common jewellery was ring brooches.  It was against the law for ordinary people to were fashionable, wealthy clothing. Another law was made that only royalty could were velvet. Men would commonly wear tights and stockings instead of women. They also wore tunics.
