4-1-14 Motion Vocabulary Motion – movement or a change in position
Types of Motion Linear motion – moving in a straight line Ex: bowling ball going straight down an alley
2. Circular motion – moving along a continually curved path Ex: tires spinning
3. Vibrational motion – moving backwards and forwards in a straight line Ex: cutting wood with a saw
4. Projectile motion – the force of gravity acting on an object to make it move ex: a football brought down by gravity
5. Oscillating motion – swinging from side to side ex: pendulum in a clock swinging
6. Deformation – motion inside an object, such as, tension, buckling, twisting, compression, bending, expansion, or stretching ex: compressing a spring
