How long should USDA listings remain in the NSF White Book How long should USDA listings remain in the NSF White Book? -NSF Tentative Plans- Kenji Yano, NSF
Current USDA Policy USDA accepts: Manufacturer “Letter of Guarantee” for new formulations. USDA authorizations with manufacturer statement (formulation did not change). –NSF White Book Third-party registrations. –NSF White Book
Issues There have been many changes since 1998. USDA no longer recommends use of the old USDA list (additional manufacturer certification required). Confidence of old authorizations continues to decline. In the future… Only “letter of guarantee” and third-party registrations will be accepted. If so, when?
Food-grade lubricants (H1) ISO standard development underway. More than 50% of all listed H1 lubricants (2,600) are NSF H1 registered.
NSF Plans Implement “sunset” for USDA H1 authorizations starting 2003. Gradually do the same for other categories when the timing is acceptable.
USDA Feedback Recent issues surrounding compound approval at FSIS-inspected plants. Feedback on usefulness/effectiveness of the 2002 White Book with manufacturer statement. Current and future acceptance of White Book by FSIS inspectors. Any future changes on acceptance of manufacturer self-certification. Is the NSF plan acceptable?
Manufacturer Feedback Any recommendation on timing for sunset for USDA approved products?
