SIDS stands for “sudden infant death syndrome SIDS stands for “sudden infant death syndrome.” This syndrome suddenly kills babies while they are sleeping. Most SIDS deaths occur when the baby is 2 to 4 moths old. (3,500 babies die each year from SIDS)

SIDS disease affects babies aged 1 month to 1 year SIDS disease affects babies aged 1 month to 1 year. African American and Native American infants are more likely to die of SIDS than Caucasian infants. SIDS affects boys more than girls.

Some symptoms may occur when a baby has SIDS Some symptoms may occur when a baby has SIDS. Those symptoms include changes in breathing, color of skin, and muscle tone.

When the baby lays on its stomach while sleeping, they‘re more likely to have a faster heart rate, a high skin temperature on their legs, and to drop their blood pressure. This is in the circulatory system. If those fail then their might be issues in the circulation and that could cause the blood not to reach vital organs such as the heart, lungs, and brain while the baby is sleeping. If the circulatory system doesn’t do its job then everything else goes wrong and the baby dies.

Researchers believe 1 cause of SIDS is that if the mother smokes while she is pregnant. Another cause that researchers believe is that they might have a hidden health problem. Doctors and researchers are not exactly sure what causes SIDS, but these are just some thoughts.

There are no cures or treatments for this disease, but there are ways to prevent it by laying the baby on a firm mattress and lay the baby on his/her back.

Doctors believe some preventions for SIDS are laying the baby on his/her back, putting the baby on a firm flat surface, and putting the baby in the same room but, not in the same bed with the parents. These prevention only lower the odds of SIDS.

SIDS disease affects the mother and father’s daily life because every day they have to live with the fact that their child has died of SIDS. They would have to worry if they had another child, that the same thing would happen to them.
