Living Things Are Made of Cells Chapter 18 Living Things Are Made of Cells

Notes Cells are the basic unit of life.

Note What are functions of cells? Skin Cells cover and protect. Muscle Cells allow for movement. Bone Cells support and protect. Nerve Cells send and receive messages. Blood Cells transport materials and fight diseases.

Note Tissues are made of groups of cells that are similar and act together to do a certain job.

Interesting Fact Cells are 3D not flat. The colors you see under a microscope is the color of the dye not the true color of the cell. The Human body has 200 different types of cells. The human body has over 10 Trillion total cells. Many cells are shaped by the job they do. I.e. muscle cells are long and thin and nerve cells have spreading branches so they can send and receive messages.
