How Can I read This Text?

How Am I Questioning ? Approaching Questions What is this mainly about? What stands out to me as I first examine this text?

Text-specific Questions What do I notice about each explorer’s face? What sort of men do they seem to be? What do the details of the photos suggest about the place they are exploring? What do I think might have happened during the expedition?

Your Task In your group, elect two people to be recorders. One for Amundsen and one for Scott Answer the question: What stands out to you as you read and examine these pictures? The recorders, write the details that stand out to the group Consult the Guided Questions handout for questions to help the group focus Discuss what these details suggest to your group and identify any new questions you have after examining these pictures

What Types of Questions Did Your Group Use? What text-specific questions did you have? Did they emerge from looking at the text? Did they prompt you to look for more details? Did they lead to a greater understanding of the text?
