Utter verb When you utter something, you are talking or speaking.

Utter “I have something important to tell you,” the girl uttered to her friend.

Utter The mom loudly utters, “Clean up this room right now!”

Utter verb Utterance noun When children first begin to make sounds, parents are excited to hear what word their child will utter first. Parents remember the first utterance for years to come and are anxious to share it with anyone who will listen.

Utter Utter is a multiple meaning word. It can also mean total, as in the sentence When the lights went out the city was in utter darkness.

Pounced past tense verb If an animal pounces, it jumps on something.

Pounced The wolf pounced on its prey so it would have something to eat.

Pounced The black kitten is about to pounce on the gray one. He is ready to play.

Hastened past tense verb When you hasten to do something, you hurry to get it done.

Hastened Before a big hurricane, people hasten to protect their homes and stores.

Endeared past tense verb When you endear yourself to someone, you are loved or admired by them. They think of you in a positive way.

Endeared Baby animals often endear themselves to their owners because they are so cute and lovable.

Endeared This woman has endeared herself to the nursing home residents by visiting them every week.

Endeared Who has endeared themselves to you? It can be a person, or an animal. Turn and tell your partner. Start by saying: “One person/animal that has endeared him/herself to me is_____”

Tempted past tense verb If you are tempted to do something, you really want to do it, even if you know you shouldn’t.

Tempted People are often tempted to eat a candy bar in the middle of the afternoon.

Tempted On weekends, I am often tempted to do nothing and just relax.

Tempted What is something that is tempting to you? Turn and tell your partner. Start by saying: “One thing that I am tempted by is…”.
