BASEAL Getting on and falling out - 6

L.O.1 To know some things a good leader should do.

To do this you will need to work in groups. Each group will need to choose a person to be the editor. The editor is like a group leader. What do you think a good leader should be like? What qualities should a good leader have? Let’s draw up a list of those qualities so we can check whether or not each group has a good leader.

Some ideas about a good leader are that they should: make sure that everyone gets a turn; listen to everyone; help everyone to feel good about what they are doing; make sure that no-one interrupts; make sure that people keep to the task; help to plan all the jobs that need doing and who should do them; help to resolve any conflict.

As you produce the magazine you will need to give feedback about how you think your group is getting on. You should be able to identify what skills the leader is using or could use more often.

Problem Page Dear Problem Page, The following letter has been received by a Problem Page editor: Dear Problem Page, I am 10 years old and have two best friends, Kurshid and Shamim, at school. We have been friends for years. We spend all our free time together. The other day Kurshid and Shamim’s families had a big row. Kurshid told me about it and asked me to be her friend and not Shamim’s friend. I want things to be how they were. What should I do? Yours Worried.

Work with your group to answer the problem. We will share our answers later. When you have your answer write some imaginary problems and pass them to another group to solve. They should pass their answers back to you. We could make a collection called “Friendship Problems and How to Solve Them”.
