Science Vocabulary 3 Week 8

Atoms what all matter is made of

Compound A substance made up of two or more elements chemically joined together into a molecule.

Density   A measurement that is equal to the amount of mass per unit of volume.

Electrons particles with negative electrical charges, surrounding the nucleus of an atom

Element Any of the more than 100 known substances (of which 92 occur naturally) that cannot be separated into simpler substances and that singly or in combination constitute all matter.

Volume is the amount of space an object occupies

Mass measure of how much matter an object has.

Matter Anything that takes up space and has mass.

Mixture two or more substances blended, but not bonded together

Neutrons The particles of the nucleus that have no charge.

Nucleus The positively charged dense center of an atom.

Periodic table A table that lists chemical elements in order of increasing atomic numbers.

Protons A stable particle found in the nucleus of an atom with a positive charge.

Properties a quality or trait of a substance or object
