Early Life He was thought to be born in 1480 in northern Portugal His parents died when he was 10 At age 12 he was appointed as the Queen’s messenger in The Royal Court

Early life (cont.) He lived with his brother, Diego, and was thought to have at least two sisters He lived in the remnants of an old watch- tower Animals were on the first floor of the watch-tower and he lived on the second floor He was the son of Portuguese aristocrats

His Goals, Accomplishments, and His Country Ferdinand Magellan sailed for Portugal He was the first sailor to circumnavigate the World His goals were to get to the Spice Islands

What would Pirates want? They would want Gold, money, and spices that were on Magellan's ship.

Magellan was unique Magellan was unique because he was the first sailor to circumnavigate the world without knowing and he never made it to where he wanted to go!
