Thank you for joining us tonight. Please take a handout .

As a mother of two daughters who are products of CSISD, I love being part of the CSISD family! My older daughter, Bailey, graduated from A&M Consolidated High School in 2011 and is a teacher and coach at College Station Middle School. My younger daughter, Brady, graduated from College Station High School last year and is currently a freshman biology major at Texas A&M. We are proud Tigers and Cougars! I am a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, where I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in English. I love reading, volleyball, baseball, writing, shopping, vacationing at the beach, and Starbucks! And the Aggies, of course!  Professionally, I am entering my 33rd year as a classroom teacher. Other districts I have taught in include the Klein, Wichita Falls, and Bryan independent school districts. I have experience teaching students who were at-risk as well as AP students, grades 6-12. I have been enriched beyond measure during my time in the classroom. My philosophy: Relationships are the foundation!

Welcome to 6th grade ELA Sixth grade ELA will focus on both reading and writing skills. Preparing students for success and growth throughout the year is paramount. Student choice through the workshop model in reading and writing will be fostered throughout the year.

WORKSHOP WRITING WORKSHOP We will use the writing workshop philosophy in our classes this year. Students will be presented mini- lessons on various writing techniques, followed by the opportunity to use the writing process to demonstrate their mastery of producing various styles of writing. READING WORKSHOP We will use the reading workshop philosophy in our classes this year. Students will be presented with mentor texts, may participate in reading circles with limited selection options, and will have the opportunity for personal choice during our workshop time.

It would take a year for the less-than-one-minute readers to read what the 20- minute readers read in two days!

Please sign up for Remind sheet if you haven’t already done so.

Ask your child about how these images relate to ELA class! 
