ASIC ACCREDITATION What is assessed? Eight Areas of Operation: Premises and Health and Safety Management and Staff Resources Learning ,Teaching and Research Quality Assurance and Enhancement Student Welfare Awards and Qualifications Marketing and Student Recruitment Relationship with Government Offices and Reporting Mechanisms.

ASIC ACCREDITATION Why? To ensure that: Universities meet statutory requirements. Universities engage in continuous quality assurance, monitoring and evaluation of its teaching and research activities. Students receive a good education in a safe and caring environment. Courses delivered are genuine and enable students to progress to further education and research and/or employment. The academic staff are appropriately qualified. Marketing and promotion of the college is undertaken in an ethical way Universities continually improve their provision so as to further benefit students and enhance the image of international education.

ASIC ACCREDITATION How? There are three stages in the accreditation process: Stage 1 - Scrutiny of the Application Form and supporting documentation. An ASIC Inspector checks: College details Compliance with statutory requirements Course outlines Prospectus and marketing materials That the Principal's declaration has been signed on behalf of the college. Proceed to Stage 2? – Yes / need further information / No.

ASIC ACCREDITATION How? Stage 2 - Initial Inspection Visit –1-2 day visit by 1or 2 inspectors. The Inspector: Meets the VC and Management Team Checks statutory documentation and agreements with partner universities, professional and examining bodies Tours the premises to check health and safety issues, common rooms/canteen, staff offices and circulation space Inspects Lecture rooms, research facilities and teaching aids, IT facilities and the library

ASIC ACCREDITATION Meets staff responsible for health and safety, student welfare/disability policy and marketing Meets administrative staff responsible for student tracking/compliance with immigration requirements, examination procedures and student records Provides feedback to the Principal and discusses arrangements for the Stage 3 visit. The inspector writes a report for the Accreditation Committee which - identifies any shortcomings the college should address - recommends whether or not to proceed to Stage 3 - contributes to the final report sent to the college. Proceed to Stage 3? Yes / No

ASIC ACCREDITATION How? Stage 3 - Accreditation Visit – “normally” a two day visit by two Inspectors. The Inspectors: Meet the VC and perhaps other staff to explain the purpose and nature of the visit Observe a number of teaching sessions and Research activities Meet a representative group of staff (teaching , research and support) Meet with research students and their supervisors Meet groups of students

ASIC ACCREDITATION Check staff qualifications and appointment procedures Discuss support for staff development Discuss arrangements for students’ pre-enrolment and registration Meet course leaders re. course handbooks, feedback from students, feedback on students’ assessed work, tutorial support and timetables Discuss arrangements for examinations, exam boards and analysis of pass/completion rates Hold a discussion with staff responsible for ensuring that data on student arrival, attendance and academic progress is available for the immigration department .

ASIC Check statistical information regarding citations and peer reviews Check other information as required by the various WUR Check various KPI in regard to Internationalisation Provide oral feedback to the VC and management identifying strengths and weaknesses

ASIC ACCREDITATION The Commendable Grade & Premier College Status Not Accredited Accredited Premier Accredited (If a college has at least six out of the eight Areas of Operation, including Areas BCD and E)

What makes ASIC different from other International Accreditation? Does not begin with learning outcome ASIC put more to the learning environment (Classroom observation is requirement) Safety and convenience learning environment
