The preposition à usually means to or at in English. Contractions with à The preposition à usually means to or at in English.

Contractions with à When you use à with the definite article , make the following contraction: Le À + LE AU J’aime aller au cinéma.

Tu aimes parler aux professeurs. Contractions with à When you use à with the definite article , make the following contraction: Les À + LES AUX Tu aimes parler aux professeurs.

Contractions with à LA L’ When à appears before or , there is no contraction. À + LA À LA À + L’ À L’ Tu aimes aller à la piscine? Marie adore aller à l’école.

Conjuctions Just like in English, in French we use conjuctions like et (and), mais (but), and ou (or) to link two ideas or two sentences together.

Mais J’aime chanter. Je préfère dessiner. J’aime chanter mais je préfère dessiner.
