Mass Movement can occur at a range of speeds from very slow less than 1cm per year called Soil Creep to horrifyingly and very fast Rock Falls and Slope Failures which can both change a landscape in a matter of minutes. Mass movement is common where there is a undercutting of slope or cliffs makes them unstable and prone to collapse. More often the sheer weight of rainwater combined with weak geology is the major cause of cliff collapse.   There are different types of Mass Movement—see the next page for the classification. The resultant movement depends on a range of factors which include: Þ The angle of slope or cliff Þ The rock type and its geological structure Þ The vegetation cover Þ How wet the ground is
