Presentation transcript:

Warm Up ASB has randomly sampled 150 students at Leland about their opinion on Spirit Week before finals. 47.3% of the students sampled said it is a good idea to have Spirit Week before finals and the rest said it was a distraction and is not a good idea. Is this convincing evidence that the majority of all students at Leland do not support having Spirit Week before finals? Hint: Assume population proportion is 0.5 and find the probability the sample proportion is 0.473 or less.

Practice A 2008 study measured the time from the start of the game until the first goal was scored in 381 NHL games. The median time was 10 minutes, the mean time was 13 minutes and the distribution was strongly skewed to the right. The standard deviation is 10.5. 1) Find the mean and standard deviation for the sampling distribution of the sample means from this population if n=30. 2) If possible, find the probability the mean time before the first goal in a sample of 30 games is greater than 20 minutes (after the 1st period).

Chapter 7 Review 1) A 2008 paper attempted to investigate if “The Freshmen 5” is a real phenomenon. They found that freshmen gained a mean of 2.7 pounds with a standard deviation of 6.4 pounds. What is the probability a sample of 40 freshmen would gain, on average, at least 5 pounds? 2) A 2003 paper reported that hepatitis occurs in 7% of patients who receive blood transfusions during heart surgery. If a sample of 150 heart surgery patients is taken, what is the probability that less than 5% of the patients would contract hepatitis?
