BE BRIGHT BE SEEN ASSEMBLY Presented by: Add sheriff names here

Being Seen! When you are out and about , especially near roads, it is REALLY important to be seen by drivers and other users of the road. When the weather is dark and gloomy outside it can make it difficult for you to be seen clearly.... Even if you are crossing in a safer place!

What happened at the end of October? During half term we moved our clocks back one hour. You may have noticed that: it’s darker when you get up in the morning night time seems to arrive earlier in the evenings now.   Ask children- If they know what happened at the end of October?   They may reply - Halloween, Bonfire Night or the clocks go back.

Winter Weather At this time of year the weather can also be dull and misty making it difficult for us to see clearly when we are outside and for other people using the road and pavement to see us. Many people get hurt on the roads because they cannot be seen at this time of year.

So how you be bright and be seen? It is very important that when we are walking, scooting or cycling, we can be seen at all times especially by drivers. So how you be bright and be seen?

Wear Bright or Florescent Clothing Fluorescent is the name of the bright, neon coloured materials. It comes in lots of different colours – pink, green, orange, yellow. It is also known as Day-Glo because it shows up in the daylight, at dusk and also in dull, misty weather. Ask the children- Can anyone give me some examples of people who wear bright coloured clothing like this? (Policeman, Lollipop person, postman, cyclists, children on walking buses) (Hold up an example of a high vis vest if you have one)

Wear Reflective Materials Reflective material is special. It shows up very bright when a light shines on it. Reflective materials show up best at night when light falls on them. They reflect the light from car headlights so drivers can see them easier. Ask the Children- Ask if anyone knows what reflective is?

Accessories can also help make you be bright and been seen! Some clothing is both Florescent and Reflective, this is great because it can be seen in the day and night! Ask the Children- Ask if anyone knows what reflective is? Accessories can also help make you be bright and been seen!

Do you ride a bike? white front light, red back light and Remember – if you’re on your bike it is against the law to cycle at night without a: white front light, red back light and red reflector at the back If you are cycling in the dark make sure your lights and reflector are clean and in good working order. Ask the Children- Ask if anyone knows what reflective is?

THANK YOU Can also do a poem before finishing if you want Poem   When we’re going out at night, We should wear clothes that make us bright We should do this so we can be seen, Especially when it’s dark at Halloween! Reflective jackets are really cool, If we all had one that would be a good rule! There are so many things we can do, Not just at night, in the daytime too, So here’s what we’re all going to do, Wear bright coloured clothes that feel good to you. So everyone knows that you’re there And then it’s up to you to take care!
