NİŞANTAŞI ÜNİVERSİTESİ © Whıle readıng HOME FROM HOME! Every year thousands of British people sell their homes and move to a place in the sun. But is the grass really greener if you move abroad? We ask two couples how they feel about living in a different country. Georgina Wilkes: “We moved to Spain two years ago, after my husband, Don, retired. We live in a place called Nerha, on the Mediterranean coast. We chose Spain because we hated being in England in the winter and we wanted to live somewhere warm. We really love living here – the weather is wonderful and the local people are friendly. Some British people here think they don’t need to learn Spanish, but I think that’s wrong. When you are living in another country, you need to learn the language. I really enjoy studying Spanish and I’d like to become fluent. Then I’d really feel part of Spain.” Neil Garner: “My wife, Violet, and I moved to France about six years ago and we live in a small village near Bordeaux. We are the only British people in the village, so we needed to learn French very quickly. At first Violet didn’t like living here, but now we’re part of the village and we don’t want to go back to England. It’s so quiet and peaceful here. I enjoy writing and one day I’d like to write a book about life in the village. We love having people to stay and they all say they’d love to live here too. We’d like to stay here for the rest our lives.” Adapted from Face2Face Elementary, Cambridge NİŞANTAŞI ÜNİVERSİTESİ ©
