Cause and Effect To help you understand a story better, see if you can find a cause and effect relationship.

Cause The CAUSE is what makes something happen. Each cause has an effect.

Effect The EFFECT is what happened.

My dog chewed the sock because he was hungry. What is the effect? What happened?

Some clue words that should alert you that it is a cause are BECAUSE and SINCE. Clue words are not always there.
