MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT 1940-1945 "WHAT I DID LAST SUMMER" By Madeline Hellmann, Alyssa Rawls, Mason Rose, Aliyah Bonner, and Kaleb Johnson.

music before WWII The music era was shaped mostly by the Great Depression and the start of Old Hollywood. Big bands genres like the swing genre were very popular. Louie Armstrong and Billie Holiday are just some artists of the time.

ENTERTAINMENT BEFORE WWII Movies such as "The Floorwalker" and "The Birth of a Nation" were popular Art was very realistic Photography was realized as art Books and sports were mainstream Radio was still a form of entertainment

Music during WWII Music played a big role during the war. Music was a way to unify and keep the people at home and the troops who were in the war happy. It was almost like a technique to distract from the fact that supply was cut and the war seemed never ending.

Music during WWII continued Such as the Star- Spangled Rhythm(1942) which adds a little of all the popular styles into one album. Popular types of music during this time was swing, jazz, and any song that had to do with America being great.

Entertainment during WWII Radio was the chief form of news and entertainment, and listening had increased overall during wartime by 1945.

ENTERTAINMENT DURING WWII The cinema was another extremely popular pastime. Every week in Britain, between 25 and 30 million cinema tickets were sold.

Entertainment After WWII New advancements were made in sports, radio, literature, and the film industry. Movie demands increased and new Hollywood studios were produced. Radios became more widely used after World War II, new technology was invented and improved, and sports games became more interesting due to new players. The first motion picture and sound movie was produced after World War II.

Music After WWII Famous Musicians: Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, Racial tension was building with the beginning of the civil rights movement and music reflected many of those tensions. Rhythm & Blues (R&B) and Rock 'n' Roll popularized "black" music and many African-American musicians rose to fame and enjoyed success, but some were able to enjoy the benefits of their work, many others were forgotten or denied access to audiences through segregation.
