Olympics of Reading Competitions: Word Sprints Fluency Bobsled Vocabulary Balloon Relay Comprehension Pentathlon

Relay Groups Students will be placed into teams by Mr. Kern, Olympics of Reading President.

Word Sprints You will be provided eight words. A member from each group will write the eight words on the board. You will circle and slash the words, one student at a time, alternating students. Groups with the least amount of errors will win the gold medal. (3 stamps each group)

Fluency Bobsled Each member of the group will be assigned a part of the fluency sheet. (Paragraphs 1 and 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) Members will practice their parts. The group will sit in front of the room and read the entire piece as quickly as possible. The group with the fastest time (adding 2 seconds for each error) will win the gold medal.

Vocabulary Balloon Relay Each group will write the words and definitions on a balloon with a Sharpie. If your balloon bursts, you must start over. You will pass the balloon up and back the row, each person adding only one word and definition at a time. The first group to finish with all words and definitions written correctly, wins the gold.
