Social Intelligence is learning to navigate relationships and interactions with respect and confidence. Please talk with your student about what it means to treat people with respect. We are noticing a lot of meanness toward other students and disrespect toward staff members. Going forward, we will be putting this newsletter together every two weeks. If you have questions or concerns, please contact us. We can’t help if we don’t know there is a problem. **OLPA testing begins January 31. Check Friday Folder for more information. What we are learning in Literacy What we are learning in Math Science Our topic will continue to be guided by the following question: What adaptations help animals survive? We will continue looking into different features of Carnivores, Herbivores, and Omnivores and how their different diets and lifestyles determine the features they have. What we are learning in Literacy We are learning that we read texts differently. For example, we read nonfiction different than fiction. We also read sports books different than weather books. This is called reading through different lenses and will be our focus in the next week. We are continuing to learn ways to push our thinking and how to write for longer stretches of time and stay on topic. This is a challenge for many students, but we can do it! What we are learning in Math We continue to work with fractions. We are working on adding and subtracting fractions with common denominators as well as comparing fractions with unlike denominators. Drawing pictures when comparing fractions is very helpful! We are also working on changing improper fractions (where the numerator is larger than the denominator) into Mixed Numbers (a whole number with a fraction). Please ask your child to see their work and see if they can Explain to you the process. Lunch Menu Monday: Beef Hamburger Tuesday: Chicken corndog Wednesday: Beef/turkey taco Thursday: Chicken Nuggets Friday: Beef Meatloaf
