Ancient Judaism The ancient history of the Jewish people, including their politics, culture and religion.

Key Words Sacred = holy Covenant = a sacred agreement (God & Abraham) Prophet = holy men and women who carry messages from God to the people The Temple and the Synagogue = sacred buildings of the Jews Exile = being thrown out of your native country Rabbi = teacher of the laws of Judaism Sabbath = the Holy day of the Jews (Saturday) Messiah = ‘anointed one’ – the great leader who the Jews expected to lead them to freedom
