What is a Character? The Person/Place/Thing that’s active in a work of fiction

Types of Characters Protagonist: who the story revolves around Antagonist: opposition to the protagonist Minor: provides support, plays a narrow role in the story

Static vs. Dynamic Static: remains the same Dynamic: changes in an important way

Characterization Direct: the character’s personality is told to us “The patient boy and quiet girl were both well mannered and did not disobey their mother” Indirect: the character is shown to us
