Genius Hour: YPAR in the Classroom Kaitlyn Phillips // Spring 2017

Motivation: Youth Participatory Action Research Students are empowered when we make space for their experiences Build classroom community Embolden student voices Students develop concrete skills Back their opinions w/ research Advocate for themselves Critically & productively question authority/status quo Teachers foster and engage in parts of student growth that are often ignored Personal/emotional development How to engage in a more just democratic society Discovering and developing interest

Timeline General Outline Completed Draft Peer Review: Week 10 Chose standards, associate activities/assignments Develop/decide daily/weekly practices Develop beliefs: homework, classroom management, grading scale, etc. DUE: End of Week 6 Completed Draft Fully develop activities Define/Develop assessments and rubrics Outline what class will look like daily DUE: End of Week 9 Peer Review: Week 10 Project Due: Week 11
