Year 6 Erasmus trip to Italy 5th-10th February 2018 A presentation by: Teigan, Riley, Erin, Esme, Cameron and Nicholas

Altamura, Italy Altamura is an important historical town situated in the heart of the Puglia region of south-east Italy best known for its cathedral and Museum of Archaeology.

Our Journey – Day 1 Erin: “Today was the day that we travelled to Italy , it all started when we had to wake up at midnight. We had to drive to a service station and meet up with some of my classmates. We all got on the mini-bus at half twelve . We drove for half and hour and then stopped because we had to pick up three girls and three boys from Offwell Primary school.” Cameron: “Today has been a long traveling day and I have been on an aeroplane for the first time, it was so exciting. We took two planes and two coaches to get here, which took about sixteen hours. We finally got to the hotel we packed our stuff away. Then we went to a restaurant for dinner. As soon as I had finished, I fell straight to sleep because I read my book and went into a deep slumber.”

Day 2 Esme: “Today , Miss Wills and Miss Reid woke us up at half past 7 . I then got dressed and did my hair for breakfast , at quarter to 8 . We went downstairs at quarter past for our breakfast . After that , we went back to our rooms to brush our teeth , tidy our rooms and grab our bags and coats . Then, we headed for the Italian school , it was a fascinating walk . There was loads of ancient buildings such as a cathedral . When we got to the school, we were joyfully greeted by some of the Italian staff . We were then separated into groups with different teachers.” Riley: “The first lesson I did was art and craft and I made a box and a Bunny bookmark which took about 1 hour because it was so hard. After that, the bell went which meant that we were changing lessons. My second lesson was making a mask which was exiting to make.”

Day 3 Teigan: “At school, there was a coach waiting for us to take us to this place called Castle De Monte. When we arrived the views were amazing, it was like nothing I’ve ever seen. After that, we met our tour guide who was very kind and really nice. She told us about the history and who and why the person made it. After that , we went up some stairs which led to the top of the castle. After we finished the tour, we walked back to the coach and drove to the beach where we had our lunch. We then drove to Trani where we got out and looked at their cathedral. Unfortunately it was closed so we just took photos from the outside.” Nicholas: “We then came back to the hotel and it was already evening. We then ate in the evening at a pizzeria, where we were met by the Spanish, Italian and Latvian children and teachers. When we went back to the hotel, we fell asleep.”

Day 4 – Our trip to Matera! Nicholas: “Today I woke up at 8:00 got dressed went downstairs and had my breakfast. We then went back upstairs and I brushed my teeth. We went to a town called Matera with lots of old buildings which were really pretty and we took a lot of photos. If I didn’t tell you already we went with the Latvians, Spanish, Italians and us (U.K).” Esme: “We then got on the coach , back to Altamura. When we got back to Bari, we went in their little shopping street , where we got an ice - cream . We sat down and ate our ice creams , then headed for school were there was a Erasmus ceremony . The Italian school’s orchestra played some very nice music and their choir also sang : it was amazing . The Latvian children went to the front and said some things about them selves as did the others.”

Day 5 – Our last day Erin: “When we got to the school we got in to groups it was Redhills and Offwell the reason we got split up is because we had to do a presentation about our school and Offwell school . The children from the school asked us questions about our school ( and they asked if our school it better then there’s ). We went to 4 classes and all of the children asked questions it was quite fun , after the presentation we went to the hotel to pack our stuff away because we were leaving on Saturday ( we had 45 minutes to pack, it was long a enough ).” Nicholas: “After packing, we went to Tre Archi for pizza or pasta for lunch which was delicious. After lunch, we had a guided tour of Altamura and went inside the cathedral. We went through loads of narrow alleys and learnt lots about the town. After the tour we had dinner in a café and watched the Erasmus teachers on local television.”

Our memories… Teigan: “I will always remember making new friends and exploring new places.” Esme: “I will always remember the interesting culture, especially in Matera.” Riley “I will always remember the houses of rock in Matera.” Nicholas: “I will always remember Castel Del Monte and the terrifying thunderstorm when we were there.” Cameron: “I will always remember the guided tour of Altamura.”
