When is SATs week 2019? Key Stage 2 SATs take place nationally in the week commencing: 13th May 2019

How is SATs Week Organised? A timetable is issued to schools, telling us on which days tests must be administered. All children must sit the tests at the same time.

How is SATs Week Organised? Tests for most children are completed in either the hall or the classrooms, with any displays that may help, covered over. Children are divided into groups for test administration to ensure they are properly supported and feel secure.

Results In July each pupil will receive: A raw score (number of actual marks gained in each test). A scaled score in each tested subject. Confirmation of whether or not they have attained the expected national standard.

Scaled Scores What is meant by ‘scaled scores’? The score of 100 will always represent the ‘national standard’. Each pupil’s raw test score will therefore be converted into a score on the scale, either at, above or below 100.

Reading Tests A single test paper with three unrelated reading texts. Texts could include narratives, recounts, persuasive, poetry, instructional or discursive. These are not linked by theme. Children are given 60 minutes in total, which includes reading the texts and answering the questions. A total of 50 marks are available.

How are we helping children to prepare? Practise papers at the end of each half term. Mock SATs week. Lots of targeted practise of the types of questions the children might encounter within lessons. Lots of emphasis on reasoning and problem solving to enable a deep understanding of the concepts that are covered. Setting for each unit of work in Mathematics.

TIMES TABLES How can you help? Use Times Table Rockstars. Use SATs companion revision modules. Use the links on the EVS website.

How can you help? Help children become familiar with: •prime numbers under 20 •the properties of shapes •how many g in a kg and other conversions •reading graphs and charts •reading bus or train timetables •ensuring children can read time on analogue and digital clocks •times tables

How can you help? Be positive – encourage an ‘I can’ attitude. Lots of praise and encouragement. Ensure detail and quality in homework tasks. Use internet and revision guide materials together.

How can you help? Ensure children get plenty of sleep. Encourage children to attend school. Provide healthy breakfasts, snacks and drinks. Encourage children to speak to their teachers if they are worried.
