Presentation transcript:

TV/Film Writing Spring Semester Week 1

Tuesday Bell Ringer & Agenda: What is your New Year’s resolution? Personal? School? Don’t have one? Create one now! What is your goal for this semester? Post It  Name  Answer  Board for grade! Bell Ringer Review of Year Mirror Image What’s Different? Numbers

This semester: Our end goal is that you write a preview script for the book you are reading. While you have time to (re)read your book, we are going to focus on drama/acting so that you know what your ‘actors’ will go through to produce your script. You need to have a copy of your book by MONDAY!! We will look at Radio Dramas (Summative Project). We will also look at a few different TV shows, movie previews, and their scripts. You will have from the end of March until the end of April to write your script. There will be specific elements due along the way. You will also have workshop days where you will work with me or another teacher to strengthen your script. At the beginning of May, you will submit a script for your book. The best two scripts will be directed by the author into a movie preview. Those previews will be shown to the school during lunches! You may also receive an Dayton Devil Distinguished Script Writing Award! Keep that in mind as you write your script.

Mirror Image: Grab a partner and stand facing each other One person will be person A & one person will be Person B Person A will begin moving body parts slowly Person B needs to mimic Person A. And Go! Switch!

What’s different? Grab a partner and study them. Turn back to back and change one thing about your appearance. When finished raise your hand so I know you are ready to turn face to face. When I say go, turn face to face and figure out the difference. Find a new partner and repeat.

Numbers Game: As a group we must count to 30. Only one person can say a number at a time. If more than one shout out a number, we must start at 1 again. How long will it take? Can we beat our record?

Exit Slip: Pick one activity we did today and explain how it could help you with writing a script. Post It  Name  Answer  Place above door (What Stuck with You?) Don’t forget: You need a copy of your book by Monday! If you need help with finding your book or finding a title to read, let me know NOW! Not on Monday!

Wednesday Bell Ringer & Agenda: Which activity did you like best from yesterday? Post It  Name  Answer  Board When finished, move desks into a circle. Bell Ringer Drama Games

Name Game: In my grandmother’s attic I found… Start with letter “A” and go through the alphabet naming objects that are in your grandmother’s attic. Candy for whomever can remember all of the letters.

Two Truths & a Lie I will give you about 5 minutes to write down two truths and a lie about yourself. A: blah one B: blah two C: Blah three You will then get up and recite what you wrote. We will poll the class to see which one they believe is a lie. I’ll go first: A: I have two dogs, Abby and Nati. Abby is a beagle hound. Nati is a Rodigian ridgeback mix. B: I have wanted to teach English since I was eight years old. C: I have a tattoo and four piercings.

Partner Draw: I will give you an object to draw (like Pictionary). The twist? You can only use squares, triangles, circles, and rectangles to draw your picture. IF you can guess the drawing, you get to draw next. A duck A dog A tree A pencil A tape dispenser A light A family A semi truck A police car A bride A famous person A clock A play

Rock, Paper, Scissors Challenge: Volunteer to be the 1st leader? As a class, we will play Rock, Paper, Scissors Leader will play one person. If they win, they move to next person. If they lose, they take winning person’s seat and winner moves to next person. Final battle is against Mrs. Webster!

Leader will periodically change movement. All students must follow what leader does without giving away who the leader is. Once we start I will let Guesser in to try and figure out who the leader is. We will play a few rounds.
