CONDUCT OF PILOT SURVEY: HIGHLIGHTS AND RESULTS Planned Approach to Pilot Pre-mission Suggested approach for review and guidance Drawing up sample based on ISIC Rev.4 Sending out questionnaire to establishments in sample

CONDUCT OF PILOT SURVEY During Mission Review responses and schedule meetings as determined from findings of the review Hold face to face meetings with senior officials in relevant ministries of Gov’t Hold focus group meetings with sector/business associations

CONDUCT OF PILOT SURVEY Changed of Approach Delay in dispatch of questionnaires to targeted establishments and hence in scheduling of meetings Aim for a high “outreach rate” during mission and follow up on responses post country mission Project assistants with support of Focal Points to follow up on response rates post country mission

CONDUCT OF PILOT SURVEY DOMINICA Sample was updated during first 2 days of mission Because of small size of sectors it was decided to send the questionnaire to all establishments in the sample Of 86 establishments 39 responded Responses came from all the targeted sectors however the cultural industries were not well represented

CONDUCT OF PILOT SURVEY GRENADA Of the 56 companies targeted 30 were visited and responses received from??

CONDUCT OF PILOT SURVEY ANTIGUA Of the 37 establishments targeted, 22 responded.

CONDUCT OF PILOT SURVEY ST.LUCIA Act of God intervened!!! No outreach with establishments Report from Project Assistant indicates very poor response rate

CONDUCT OF PILOT SURVEY SURINAME

CONDUCT OF PILOT SURVEY JAMAICA

COMMENTS ON TIS QUESTIONNAIRE Notes should be in bigger fonts The notes on insurance services need to be clearer Would prefer an online survey Translated version of the questionnaire must accompany the English version for Suriname Can MS specify subsectors of specific interest e.g. sports, real estate, quantity surveying??.

COMMENTS ON TIS QUESTIONNAIRE Cont’d Numbering of line items should correspond with numbering of relevant notes Under purpose of survey replace foreign service provider with non-resident service provider In the case of the insurance sector some rearrangement of records will be necessary

COMMENTS ON TIS QUESTIONNAIRE Cont’d Courier services missing on the credit side Data by trading partner can be provided. In some cases lead time for adjusting records to generate this info is necessary Further education on how to complete the questionnaire is needed
