CAA of New Zealand Resilience against Compliance SMS / HSAW Interface Resilience against Compliance SMS Industry Workshop

Resilience and Safety Resilience is the ability of a system (organisation) to prevent or adapt to changing conditions in order to maintain (control over) a system property (e.g. safety or risk) To ensure safety the organisation must be resilient in terms of avoiding failures and losses as well as responding appropriately after the fact Resilience Engineering Concepts and Precepts Chapter 8 - Engineering Resilience into Safety-Critical Systems

Problems known to top management Serious event (1) Problems known by other personnel Other incidents (600)

Organisational Culture

Purpose of Relationship Diagram Show if an organisation has systems/processes covering Part 100 SMS - e.g. Hazard ID, Risk Management The same system/process could be used for H&S requirements - If it has been considered in that light

Purpose of Relationship Diagram Similarly, H&S system/processes, could be used for Part 100 SMS Noting that Part 100 focus is to identify hazards to aviation safety & manage the associated risks. It’s not intended to show a direct relationship.

Integrating your Safety Management KISS – Keep it Simple / Scalable Think about your Policies / Processes / Systems that be can be common Think about your staff using yours systems How do you build on your safety culture Its about your people ANY QUESTIONS?
