Grading/Levels of understanding 4-Consistently 3-Usually 2-Inconsistently 1-Rarely Types of Assessments in 1st: -Observation -Teacher/Student Interview -Group Work/Project -Classwork (Formative Assessment) -Unit Test (Summative Assessment)

Language Arts We use “Daily 5” Read to self (self-selected text) Work on writing (creative writing) Word Work (SPELLING) Listen to reading (Raz-Kids/PebbleGo) Read with the Teacher (leveled)

Math Hands-on/Games Building number sense communication/collaboration Problem solving Real-world connections

Science and social studies Subjects are alternated throughout the nine weeks Topics and study guides for key vocabulary can be found on the weekly newsletter We look for opportunities to incorporate topics across the curriculum

HOmefun=Homework Read 20 minutes a day with your child Students choose 4 math and 4 lang. Arts activites a month to complete from the Homefun Menus. We will start in October. Check out the blog for a sample

Classroom behavior Please initial nightly and return in your child’s folder. Everyone has a bad day or bad moment :) I look for trends!
