Legislation: Yes You can!

Legislation Definition Legislation is a law or body of laws enacted by a governing body. For our purposes, we do not write “laws”, however, we do have guidelines or “rules” in our constitution that must be followed.

Writing Legislation Four stages: Thinking stage Writing stage Formal stage Final stage

Thinking Stage Step #1: Step #2: So: What is the project or activity you are suggesting? Step #2: Because: Why do you want to do this activity? Try to give as many reasons as possible!

Writing Stage Step #3: Step #4: So: Write down what you want to do. Be as specific as possible without giving it away. Step #4: Because: Write down all the reasons for the project or activity. The best reason should be listed last.

Formal Stage Step #5: Step #6: So: The “so” now becomes “therefore, be it resolved”. Step #6: Because: The “because” now becomes “whereas”.

Final Stage Step #7: Step #8: Whereas is listed first, with the weakest points at the top and the strongest near the bottom. Step #8: Therefore, be it resolved is listed last. This point should be essentially, the “bottom line”.
