In this media-drenched, data rich, channel-surfing, computer gaming age, we have lost the art of doing nothing. In Praise of Slowness

1. We live in a universe defined by rhythm.

Space and slow are friends to your spiritual health.

2. The Sabbath is one of God’s strategies for helping you live a life of rhythm.

Sabbath literally means to stop.

Sabbath is anchored in God’s design of the universe.

For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them …

… but he rested on the seventh day … but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. Exodus 20:11

Sabbath is anchored in our chosenness .

Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the LORD your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm…

… Therefore the LORD your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day. Deuteronomy 5:15

You will be healthier (and more fun to be around) when you have a good rhythm of life.

It helps me embrace my limits.

It helps me with my control issues.

It helps me find my identity apart from what I accomplish.
