BSc (Hons) Pre-Registration Midwifery Plymouth University

A new curriculum will commence in September 2013 for the BSc (Hons) Pre-Registration Midwifery Eligibility to apply for Registration as a midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Council

Course Structure Highly integrated and focused programme Course completed over 156 weeks in 3 years with 7 weeks annual leave per year 45 programmed weeks each year The course will be delivered using both clinical and theoretical elements with a 55/45 weighting respectively Some shared learning will take place in multiprofessional groups or with post-registration midwives at appropriate points in the programme

Practice / Clinical Placements Placements take place throughout the South West, therefore you will be required to travel to and from placements Practice takes place under the direct or indirect supervision of a sign off mentor Some placements will be in non-Midwifery areas DoH bursaries, include travel and accommodation for placements

The pattern of the programme will reflect a block structure, with students either in practice or theory/ annual leave. It is anticipated that the first full practice block will commence after Christmas, with some introductory days prior to this. Programme Pattern

You may be required to travel for your practice placements, developing a broader practice experience All theory will be delivered in Plymouth or via blended learning

Your Application Totality of the application Academic qualifications including: - Strong GCSE profile: five grades A-C (must include English, Maths and Science) - A Levels: 320 points (with at least 160 points from two A levels); at least a B in a science subject at A-level Personal Statement References

Your Application Non Standard Academic Qualifications BTEC National Certificate or Diploma in a Science or health related subject Access to Higher Education, to include a distinction in Maths, English and Science Evidence of academic study in the last five years is required

UCAS Application Entry to the Midwifery course is very competitive Candidates are offered places on the basis of the totality of their UCAS application and a selection day All applications go through a short listing process Selection days will comprise a numeracy test, literacy test and, if successful, be followed by an interview Personal statement Reference
