Unit 4 - Energy Learning Target 4.2 – Be able to compare & contrast Transferse Waves versus Longitudinal (compression) Waves

Transverse Waves A transverse wave is one in which the oscillations are perpendicular to the direction of travel. Notice, in the image below, the wave is moving left-to-right but it is oscillating in the up-and-down direction.

Longitudinal (compression) Waves Longitudinal waves produce oscillations parallel to the direction of travel. (longitudinal waves are also called compression waves)
