SoE Furlough What Administrators Should Know

Designated Furlough Days 2009-10 November 27, 2009 (Day after Thanksgiving) December 30, 2009 April 2, 2010 May 21, 2010 2010-11 November 26, 2010 (Day after Thanksgiving) December 30, 2010 March 18, 2011 May 20, 2011

What if an Employee has to Work on a Mandated Furlough Day? Floating Furlough If a mandatory furlough day occurs on a day you have to be at work you can save it and have another “floating furlough” allocation Auto-load Deletion for Unclassified These come out the month after, if your employee does not take the leave email spabich@education.wisc.edu to have it taken out. 9 month appts will not have the May Mandatory Furlough dates taken out. Department Options If the entire dept has to stay open then the entire department can choose another mandatory furlough day for their office to close on. Non-Furlough Employee Can take other leave or get approval to come into work.

Appointment Information Proration by Basis/Percentage/End Date Unclassified Salaried Employees becoming Hourly Are in Exempt status and are not earning shift differentials or overtime. Appointment vs. Funding String Can put furlough time on any funding string within 1 appt and it will auto distribute to all the person’s funding strings based off what percentage the fund is responsible for. If an employee has multiple appointments, they are treated separately. Sabbatical Still need to fill out forms and take furlough No Carryover to the Next Year Must take the 8 days each year.

Filling Out Furlough Leave cont Unclassified Furlough Time Report Directions on sheets, send to Sarah Pabich before payroll calc dates only need a copy OR original. Do not need a sheet at all if no furlough is taken.
