海葵 The sea anemone is considered to be the flower of the sea. Sea anemones look like plants, but they are really meat-eating animals. Sea anemones come in different sizes and many different colors. The sea anemone can attach itself to rocks or coral. In the center of the sea anemone is their mouth. In order for the sea anemone to eat, they must wait for their food to swim by. Then they sting it with their tentacles, and then push it into their mouth. Sea anemones spend most of their lives in one place. They can attach themselves to rocks. Some even bury themselves in the mud.

章魚 The flying gurnards are fish but they are not known to fly. They walk slowly over the ocean floor on their fins. They use the fingerlike rays at the front of their fins to push themselves along. These fish usually live in small groups, called schools. They can be found in shallow water near the shore. There they search for food in the sand, mud, and pebbles. Gurnards eat many kinds of fish, as well as shrimp and crab.

扇貝 Scallops can usually be found close to shore. A few of them can be found far out in the ocean. They have two shells that have wavy edges. Scallops usually lie about on the floor of the ocean. If an enemy comes near, it can swim away. They swim by opening and closing their shells. Scallops eat tiny sea plants and food particles found floating around in the water.

海草 Walking along the beach after a storm, you will often find a lot of seaweed washed ashore. Seaweed is a type of algae that grows in marine habitats. Seaweed usually attaches itself to the ocean bottom or to other solid objects. Seaweed is important to all of the oceans because they provide food and protection for many animals.

螃蟹 Crabs are found usually on the bottom of the sea. Crabs are related to lobsters and shrimps. Their body is covered by a shell with a waxy coating. A crab's body has several pairs of legs. They usually have five pairs that are used as walking legs and two as antennae. Their front legs have pincers that they use for feeding, defense and display. They are able to walk or run sideways and to burrow as well as swim. Crabs have compound eyes and can see well. They eat many different things.

海星 Starfish are interesting animals that also live along the beaches. Starfish are many different colors. Starfish usually have 5 arms, although some have as many as 44 arms. Each arm has rows of tube feet that are used in crawling, attaching to things, and feeding. All starfish can grow back arms that they have lost. Starfish have a flattened body with their mouth located underneath its body. Their skin is rough and leathery and usually has spines. Starfish eat and digest food outside of their bodies. Most starfish are scavengers, feeding on a lot of different plants or animals
